Essential Thinking is a series that captures the thoughts, routines and attire of unique new yorkers.

Routine is the method that drives us to transcend surface-level thinking. When freed from deciding where to go or what to do, we’re enabled to envision what we want and who we aspire to become.

EDIT 1 (1).jpg

Nick patrick - entrepreneur

I’m the Co-Founder and CEO of Radar, a tech startup in New York City. We’re building developer tools for location tracking, and our mission is to help companies collect, analyze, and act on location data.

In my free time I love exploring the city. Sometimes that means trying new restaurants and bars. Sometimes that means long runs. I don’t run as much as I used to, but I try to get in 10-20 miles per week and explore neighborhoods on foot while I’m at it.

Michael Dempsey - tech Investor

I’m a Partner at Compound, an early-stage venture capital fund. I mostly focus on investing in “frontier technology” areas, so categories that will shape our future in a big way but aren’t quite developed yet like VR/AR, driverless cars, robotics, drones, synthetic biology, and more.

When I’m not investing I write a fair amount, run on the westside highway, and play basketball.

James Williams - social strategist

I was born in Manhattan, raised in Brookline, Massachusetts, went to college at George Washington U in Washington, D.C. I live in Brooklyn, work in SoHo at an advertising agency called Wieden + Kennedy as a social strategist on the Delta account and the WKNY Instagram account.

For fun, I work out, write music, cook, and decompress with FIFA, shamelessly in that order.
